Description

Size: This species can reach a significant height, with related Cyathea species growing up to 20 meters (66 feet) in their native habitats. In cultivation, they are generally smaller, but still form a tall, slender trunk topped with a spreading canopy.
Appearance: It features large, lacy, bright green fronds that emerge with a striking reddish or orange tone on the stipes (frond bases) and scales. The trunk can also have an orange-brown color.
Care: It is a tender fern that requires a sheltered, frost-free location in cooler climates. It thrives in rich, moisture-retentive, neutral to slightly acidic soil with plenty of organic matter. Consistent moisture is vital, and the crown and roots should be kept damp, with regular watering, especially during the growing season. Protection is needed if temperatures fall below 5°C (41°F).
